The Electric Anthology Vol. I: What to Know
Dust Off Those Shelves! The 365 Library Is Growing Stronger...
Back from the pulp mines to bring you our second collection of 2024!
The Electric Anthology, Volume One is available now in paperback for $7 USD and as an eBook for $5 USD! The delightful digest-sized tome gathers everything published in our Electric Extras division for the year 2023, a few odds & ends aside. This includes all 21 of last year’s weekly Red Light Bytes stories, all six installments of our monthly, shit-faced Solar Joint Stories experiment, both of our flash story collections, and the previously uncollected poem “For the A #1.” 38 further adventures into the wild wolven future for those playing at home!
Never before has the phrase “speculative fiction” or the broad idea of fantasist literature ever hit closer to home than editing this collection. When I set aside all of the little quirks and snags on the road to this moment (some of which are touched upon in the book’s introduction), my own doubts befitting any serious craftsman, the end product is something I am most proud of, warts & all. Because it does precisely what I have set out to do from the start: build a world I love thru characters I love, no holds bar.
365 Infantry, I have always maintained, is a series that should defy convention and categorization. Not belligerently contrarian and postmodern in its conception, but that it welcomes all genres and turns away none. That its only limits are that of the world as-built, and any shakeups should still be plausible within the setting. And even within those constraints, I found room to write some of the most lovingly surreal fiction I have penned thus far, as well as some of my favorite character-driven fiction thus far.
Stories like “We Are the Road Crew,” “Pop Was a Rock-Climber,” the conceptual madhouses of “Technicolor Fields” and everything concerning ACC VULT, and all being cranked out as a side dish to the main series. Not without future ramifications of course, but that’s for another day…
This is why I do what I do, and why I love what I do. Consider this book 128 pages of euphoric exploration. It will not be to everyone’s tastes, it will not read the same way for one person as it does another, but above all else, it is a fun, carefree yet thoughtful trip thru our favorite megacity and desert, carried out via the lives of colorful new characters, familiar faces, and the extraordinary things that happen to ordinary folk along the way.
And just as a reminder, this too is an annual collection, our auxiliary omnibus if you will. There is plenty more where this came from, and with any luck, better!
Before I go back to cranking out 365 Infantry #8 and all the other fun stuff we have in store, something I don’t normally do:
Normally my proofs are abominations only the Lord himself would look fondly upon out of sheer kindness, but this was quite the exception. I wanted to share my proof (color-corrected to better reflect the adjustments made) because I was bowled over to see it in person, and it stands as one of the finest lookers in the series history yet. And imagine how much more handsome it’ll be on your shelves and without that silly “Not for Resale” band!
