RED LIGHT BYTES: Updates Dossier (5-13-2024)
MAJOR NEWS From Your Favorite Wolven Cyberpulp
Overview
This is going to be a bit of a “we got it all” kind of dossier. New releases, our first stab at pre-orders, and new things to get hyped for, not to mention work on the forthcoming Summer 2024 issue, of which I’ll front-load the updates for here.
Story 3/5 has passed the first draft phase
Kevin’s still hammering away on story art
Recording on Alan Firedale commences this week
Work starts on exclusives for the digest-sized 365 Infantry Quarterly
We’re turning to our many muses in the world of classic science and adventure fiction, as well as shaking up our visual presentation of the series that’s sure to bring the punch of 20th century pulps and comics to the 25th century world of Haven and the Wastelands. We hope you dig what we’re unleashing this June, and can’t wait to tell you all about what The Force, Val’s Hunters, Metröpolis, lone-wolf Lita and all the rest are up to in this new and exciting batch of tales.
On with the offseason updates!
NEW ANIMATION: While Haven Sleeps
Bang on time, our test animation While Haven Sleeps arrives to give you all a taste of 365 Infantry in motion! The one-minute microfilm is now available to paid subscribers and will be unlocked for all readers this Friday, May 17th! While it isn’t a wall-to-wall action extravaganza nor a pitch pilot set to take YouTube by storm, it is our first step to taking this series to the next level.
If you just can’t wait until Friday, now’s the time to join the Force as a paid subscriber. For just $5/Month or $50/Year, gain access to our growing treasure trove of exciting stories, audio productions, comics and more! Pro-tip though: Substack gives free readers one single-use unlock to gain access to a paid post of their choice. If there was ever a time to hop the paywall, now’s your chance!
We won’t be publishing our usual Red Light Bytes story this week to give While Haven Sleeps the Friday limelight, but don’t be surprised if you see a Quick Byte of cyberpulp excitement sometime between now and then. We have to keep the count up if we’re going to reach our next item of interest.
STORY #100: A Surprise Anniversary
Upon completing the reload of all 88 of our stories on Substack (we’re counting Steeled Spies as a single, serialized novella FYI), I came to a rather startling conclusion. When combined with our nine flash stories released this year, May 31st will be the day on which we release our 100th story!
Naturally, such a milestone will not go without celebration. Not only will the last story of the month be jail-broken from the paywall penitentiary, but it also promises to be a white-hot actioner that ropes the whole gang into a peculiar escapade on the day of a Metröpolis reunion concert. There’s nothing quite like a hard rock show to ring in the summer season, and nothing quite like a grand crossover to ring in one helluva milestone.
The story will be included in our forthcoming Summer 2024 Quarterly, with special art exclusive to its appearance in the digest magazine.
PRE-ORDER The New Alan Firedale OST!
This is something I count as a point of pride. A marker of confidence in my own work ethic and ability to deliver quality work on time. For the first time in the project’s history, I am putting something up for pre-order.
Available on the 365 Infantry Bandcamp at the introductory price of $3 USD, the Wasteland’s most beloved radio show comes roaring to sonic life with this second soundtrack album. Alan Firedale: Original Soundtrack Vol. 2 contains the atmospheric electronica and rip-roaring orchestral action of Episodes 3-5 as well as some special bonuses, including “White Line Warriors,” a storybook record-styled adventure, made exclusively for the album.
When the LP launches on May 31st, it will be set to our standard $5 price-tag. Get while the getting's good and thank you for your support!
Conclusion
I’m quite pleased with the way this particular newsletter has come together because it makes something plainly clear about 365 Infantry as a project: we are a series founded on variety. Across genres and across mediums, there’s something for everyone here, from the pulp aficionado to the audiobook reader, and with animation now in the cards, viewers like myself who pine for stylish genre entertainment. But beating at the heart of it all are those five stories released every three months, all of which I can’t wait to share with you.
